Zero Day Camp Receives Google Blocky Accessibility Fund Grant to Empower Young Programmers with Disabilities

We’re thrilled to announce that Zero Day Camp has been awarded a grant from the Google Blocky Accessibility Fund! This exciting opportunity will allow us to create a series of free, self-paced learning modules designed to teach students, educators, and families how to utilize assistive technology to program with Blockly. This means that popular web based learning platforms such as Scratch and Makecode will become accessible to users with visual and physical disabilities.

Empowering the Next Generation of Programmers

Our goal is to break down barriers and provide inclusive learning experiences for young programmers with physical disabilities. With this grant, we will develop self paced learning modules that cover a the process of how to connect switch interfaces and utilize switch access with the Blockly platform. These modules will be accessible to learners of all abilities and will be accompanied by a supportive learning community. In addition, we plan on further developing our Makecode Arcade switch accessible game projects as Hour of Code activities.

Building a Thriving Learning Community

We believe that learning is more effective when done in a collaborative environment. That’s why we’re committed to fostering a vibrant learning community where students, educators, and families can connect, share experiences, and support one another. This community will provide a space for learners to ask questions, seek advice, and celebrate their achievements.
