Summer Camp 2018
Tech for Good
07/30/2018 - 08/03/2018
During this week, we explore the ways that technology can be used to solve social problems and make the world a better place for everyone. Following a service-learning model, campers design and execute a tech project to improve our local community. Campers will be exposed to current technology available to meet the needs of the disabled community and explore what technologies are still needed. A field trip to a community organization will also coincide with this week’s theme.
Games? Puzzles? Stories?
08/06/2018 - 08/10/2018
Are they games? Puzzles? Short stories? We’re not sure, but we know that we’ll have lots of fun writing code and writing words in our interactive fiction (IF) camp. We’ll play early classics like Zork and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and check out contemporary work by the winners of the annual Interactive Fiction Competition. We’ll write our own stories with the easy-to-use Twine, and then delve into other systems that allow more natural language (and require more programming). For a different take on IF (and to get the most out of our summer), we’ll explore the world of mobile augmented reality gaming, creating our own team outdoor adventure using the ARIS mobile game and multimedia story authoring framework.
Throw Brooklyn into a pot and spice with influences like David Macaulay, Simcity and Italo Calvino. ponder and let simmer. Discover Brooklyn’s past, present, and speculate about the future. Use and create media including computer maps, simulations and realistic dioramas. Learn to process a new wealth of data about the city and to present a plausible future vision for it.

Bits & Bots
08/20/2018 - 08/24/2018
Campers this week will explore the world of code and physical computing using the Microbit. This microprocessor comes packed with sensors, a visual coding environment, and is a great place to start and grown your coding and making chops. During this week, campers will create a variety of games, gadgets, and creations using the Microbit as the base. Your camper’s imagination is the limit. All skill levels and abilities are encouraged.
Here we OK Go
08/27/2018 - 08/31/2018
We’ll study OK Go (as well as other entertaining or art minded music videos) and be inspired make to and perform in our own OK Go style music video. We’ll machine like Mr. Goldberg, bend and warp time and sprinkle some tightly choreographed performances into the mix.
